My goal was to begin comfortably speaking with colleagues at work and I’ve got there much faster than expected thanks to Joy! Her lessons keep a strong focus on the needs of the learner but also sharing her linguistic expertise of the Korean language to ensure understanding – it’s a perfect combination. My weekly class, plus the homework/flashcards help me maintain momentum to keep on improving my proficiency. Thanks Joy!

I always protected the two 1-hour tutoring sessions weekly with 선생님 Joy fiercely even when my schedule is packed.
As an American expat with no prior knowledge of Korean and literally tone deaf , Joy adapted how she taught to the way I learned best. This required a little experimenting in the type of ‘homework’ including repetition in writing and using more visual tools like with the aid of a digital flashcard app.
I can say that I was surprised to be able to pick up enough Korean language to start using it within 6 months to become more relatable to my direct reports… and at the one year mark, I was comfortable enough to use nuanced phrases with large groups of colleagues beyond the typical ‘hello’, ‘thank you’, and ‘I don’t speak Korean’ phrases.
If my work takes me back to Seoul for another stint, I will make sure to write into my contract to have Joy continue to teach me again. I learned a lot about culture and history beyond the language of Korea from Joy.

Joy is an excellent teacher, highly motivated, full of energy and enthusiasm when handling her class. She went out of her way to introduce me to other ways I could learn, such as investing in Apps that allowed me to practice what she is teaching more repeatedly, absence of resources I could converse with in Korean to practice off-classes. My progress under Joy in a full year I was under her was more than the two years (and two teachers) I spent prior to being assigned to her. I would not be surprised if she is getting similar feedback from her other students
