[Vocab] -스럽-: The Adjective Maker

“-스럽-” is used to transform a noun to an adjective, which adds the meaning of “having such quality or character.”

  • 여성스럽다 (女性-스럽-다, cf. 여성(2급)): to be effeminate
  • 어른스럽다 (어른-스럽-다, cf. 어른답다): to be mature
  • 바보스럽다 (바보-스럽-다, cf. 바보(3급)): to be foolish, to be stupid, to be idiotic
  • 만족스럽다 (滿足-스럽-다, 3급, cf. 만족하다): to be satisfied
  • 당황스럽다 (唐慌-스럽-다, cf. 당황(3급)): to be embarrassed, to be disconcerted
  • 쑥스럽다 (4급): to be awkward, to be shy
  • 사랑스럽다 (사랑-스럽-다, 4급): to be lovely
  • 자랑스럽다 (자랑-스럽-다, 4급): to be proud
  • 갑작스럽다 (4급): to be sudden, to be unexpected, to be abrupt
  • 후회스럽다 (後悔-스럽-다, 4급): to be regretful, to remorseful, to be repentant
  • 부담스럽다 (負擔-스럽-다, 4급): to be burdensome
  • 고통스럽다 (苦痛-스럽-다, 4급): to be painful, to be hurtful
  • 유난스럽다 (6급, cf. 유난히(4급)): to be fastidious, to be particular, to be unusual
  • 변덕스럽다 (變德-스럽-다, 4급): to be whimsical, to be inconstant, to be unpredictable
  • 자연스럽다 (自然-스럽-다, 4급, cf. 자연(2급)): to be natural
  • 조심스럽다 (操心-스럽-다, 4급, cf. 조심하다(2급)): to be careful, to be cautious
  • 혼잡스럽다 (混雜-스럽-다, 6급): to be crowded
  • 야단스럽다 (惹端-스럽-다, cf. 야단(4급)): to be loud, to be noisy
  • 억지스럽다 (cf. 억지로(4급)): to be stubborn, to be obstinate
  • 원망스럽다 (怨望-스럽-다, cf. 원망하다(5급)): to be resentful, to be reproachful
  • 경악스럽다 (驚愕-스럽-다, cf. 경악(6급)): to be astounding, to be astonishing
  • 뻔뻔스럽다 (cf. 뻔뻔하다(6급)): to be shameless
  • 민망스럽다 (憫惘-스럽-다, cf. 민망하다(6급)): to be awkward, to be embarrassed
  • 별스럽다 (別-스럽-다): to be unusual
  • 추잡스럽다 (醜雜-스럽-다): to be dirty, to be filthy, to be disgusting
  • 상스럽다 (常-스럽-다): to be vulgar, to be coarse, to be indecent
  • 억척스럽다: to be tough, to be determined, to be relentless
  • 충성스럽다 (忠誠-스럽-다): to be loyal, to be devoted
  • 잔망스럽다 (孱妄-스럽-다): to be impudent/wicked and cute
  • 성스럽다 (聖-스럽-다): to be holy, to be sacred, to be divine
  • 탐스럽다 (貪-스럽-다): to be desirable, to be appetizing
  • 호화스럽다 (豪華-스럽-다, cf. 호화롭다): to be luxurious, to be sumptuous, to be flashy
