[Q&A] How to Say “Silly” in Korean

이거는 제가 이번 비디오 만들기 전에 혼자 생각하느라고 이것저것 써 본 노트인데요,
These are notes I scribbled down while thinking to myself before making this video,

제가 생각해 본 결과, 영어의 “silly”랑 느낌이 가장 느낌이 흡사한 한국어 표현은 “바보 같다”라고 생각해요.
and after thinking it over, I think the Korean expression whose nuance is most similar to “silly” in English is “바보 같다.”

“바보”가 사전적 뜻만 보면 부정적으로만 쓰는 게 아닐까 의심이 드실 수 있겠지만,
Looking only at the dictionary definition of “바보”, you might wonder if it’s only used negatively,

상황에 따라서 “silly”랑 비슷한 뜻으로 사용하는 것 같아요.
but depending on the situation, I think it is used with a meaning similar to “silly”.

그리고 한 가지 더 언급을 하자면 “엉뚱하다”라는 말이 있는데요.
And to mention one more, there is the word “엉뚱하다.”

제가 고양이를 세 마리 키우는데요,
I raise three cats,

마침 댓글에서 고양이를 언급을 해 주셨으니까
and since you mentioned a cat in the comments,

우리 고양이들을 보면서 단어를 한번 살펴보는 걸로 해요.
let’s take a look at the words while watching my cats.

얘는 “용용”이고요,
This one is “용용”,

지금 사람한테는 보이지 않는 작은 티끌을 발견해서 미친듯이 긁고 있습니다.
and having found a tiny speck of dust invisible to humans, he is scratching frantically right now.

아주 바보 같죠?
Very silly, right?

왼쪽에 있는 놈은 “누누”이고, 오른쪽에 있는 놈은 “완다”예요.
The one on the left is “누누”, and the one on the right is “완다”.

아주 귀엽고 바보 같습니다. 좀 엉뚱한 것 같기도 하고요.
They are very cute and silly. They seem a bit random, too.

싸우려면 걸리적 거리는 게 없는 곳에서 하는 게 좋을 텐데요….
If they’re gonna fight, it would be better to do it somewhere without obstacles in the way…

마지막도 “누누”입니다.
The last one is “누누” again.

누누가 한 살 때까지는 저렇게 뛰었어요.
Until 누누 was one year old, he used to be like that.

이제 다 컸다고 정상적인 고양이처럼 뛰지만,
Now that he’s all grown up, he runs like a normal cat,

아무튼 한 살 때의 누누는 굉장히 귀엽고 바보 같고 엉뚱했습니다.
but anyway, one-year-old 누누 was extremely cute, silly, and quirky.
