제가 어떤 책을 참고하냐는 질문이 있었죠.
There was a question asking which books I reference, right?
제가 학생들한테는 실수해도 된다, 그리고 철자 좀 틀리면 어떠냐 이렇게 말을 하는데,
To my students, I say it’s okay to make mistakes or misspell,
여러분들은 좋은 선생님 고를 때 어떻게 고르세요?
but how do you choose when choosing a good teacher?
겉으로 보기에 능력 있는 교사를 판단할 때는 정확성은 물론이고 그 교사가 가지고 있는 지식의 깊이나 양이 굉장히 중요한 척도거든요.
When judging a seemingly capable teacher, not only accuracy but also the depth and volume of knowledge that teacher holds is a very important measure.
그래서 계속 공부를 해야 제가 살아 남을 수 있기 때문에 제가 한 번에 보는 책이 많습니다.
So because I have to keep studying to survive, there are many books I look at at once.
정말 제가 보는 책을 다 보여 드리기에는 여러분들께 도움이 크게 되지는 않을 것 같아서 여러분들께 실제로 도움이 될 만한 사전 몇 가지만 소개를 해 드릴게요.
Showing you all the books I read probably wouldn’t help you much, so let me introduce just a few dictionaries that will actually be helpful to you.
제가 보는 사전이 궁금할 거라고는 저는 상상도 못 했는데,
I never imagined anyone would be curious about the dictionaries I reference,
제가 사전을 워낙 좋아해서 한 번에 보는 사전 개수가 많은데요.
but since I love dictionaries so much, the number of dictionaries I consult at once is quite large.
주로 찾는 사전은 인터넷 사전 중에서 “우리말샘”하고 국립국어원에서 만든 “학습사전”이라고 있어요.
Among online dictionaries, the ones I mainly look up are “우리말샘” and “학습사전” made by the National Institute of Korean Language.
이거 여러분들한테 도움이 좀 되실 거 같아요.

그 외에는 초등국어사전도 저는 자주 참고를 하는데요,
Besides those, I also frequently consult an elementary Korean dictionary,
이렇게 생겼고요.

여기에서는 단어 설명이 쉬운 게 특징입니다.
The feature is that word explanations are easy.
한국어를 첫 번째 언어로 가지는 10대 청소년들이 이해하기 쉽도록 단어 뜻풀이를 하고 있습니다.
It defines word meanings so that teenagers whose first language is Korean can easily understand.
그래서 저도 이거를 참고를 하는 거고요.
That’s why I also reference this.
저는 이걸 중고서점에서 2000원에 샀는데,
I bought this at a secondhand bookstore for 2,000 KRW,
지금도 그렇게 비싸지는 않을 거예요. 얼마인지는 모르겠지만.
and even now it probably won’t be that expensive. Though I don’t know the exact price.
그리고 제가 이 초등국어사전을 좋아하는 이유가 몇 개가 있는데,
And there are a few reasons why I like this elementary Korean dictionary,
우선 초등국어이기 때문에 이 전체가 다 칼라인쇄가 되어 있어요.
first, because it’s for elementary students, the whole thing is printed in full color.
그리고 저는 자주 안 쓰는 건데 이 사전 뒤쪽을 보면은 기초 한자 1000자가 준비되어 있어요.
Also, though I don’t use it often, looking at the back of this dictionary, 1,000 basic Hanja characters are provided.
그리고 애들이 헷갈려할 수 있는 단어 설명도 가끔 요렇게 되어 있는데
And explanations for words kids might find confusing are occasionally set up like this,
저는 얘네들 자주 안 보고 그냥 사전 뜻풀이 어떻게 하나, 이것만 봅니다.
but I don’t look at those often and just check how they define the words. Just that.
예를 들면 “갖추다”는 “필요한 것을 모두 준비하여 가지고 있다.” 이렇게 아주 쉽게 설명이 되어 있죠.
For example, “갖추다” is explained very simply as “to prepare and have everything needed.”
저 같이 쉬운 말 좋아하는 사람한테 딱입니다.
It’s perfect for someone like me who loves simple language.
